On the meaning of "Free"

Since we've been offering free classes, people have asked questions of what we mean by "free".

It's this simple.  As long as we are training at a public venue, anyone can train for free. 

When does money come into it?  Students who stay and test for rank are responsible for paying for uniforms, equipment, or fees with other organizations.  The instructors are going out of pocket for club fees, equipment, etc. and simply can't afford to pay for other people.

Space to train over the winter is going to cost money.  Last winter students offered to help with the costs.  This winter we how we will get similar support without having to ask for it 

Someday when we outgrow public venues and find a permanent spot things may change, but even then our preference is that guests won't be charged until they are ready to become students.
